An Interesting Love Story

They met for the first time at a bus stop. George was a medical student. Maria was an architecture student. After that first encounter, they got on the same bus, always at the same time, at the same stop, in order to meet again. They were young, both very young. It took some time for them to find the courage to talk to each other, but they finally succeeded. In fact, both were not living in the district that they got on a bus every morning. The first day they met, George got on the bus from that stop because he was staying with his friend, and Maria stayed with her sister that day. Just to see each other, they were leaving their homes early every morning, walking to that station on the other side of town. They both confessed this situation after a while.
When they finished their school, they got married immediately. They were happy and very happy. Sometimes they were unemployed and sometimes broke. Their hearts and hands were almost interlocked. They loved each other very much. They didn't care about anything. They were also happy when they had no money. They were always happy when they became a famous doctor and a famous architect. Their love was so different. Their love was not an exhausting love. Time had not lessened their love. They still loved each other like the first day.
As the days, days and years chased years, their love grew and their love grew. Their only shortcoming was that they could not have a child. Despite a long period of treatment, they did not have a child.

"It would be selfish to expect all happiness to be ours." they said, and they continued their lives. Instead of children, they raised their love. Maria always hugged her husband tightly. Her husband also hugged his wife. They almost became one.
Sometimes when Maria came home, she would see a note on the mirror:
"Oh my dear, you should look at the second shelf of the library."
There would be another note on the second shelf of the library:
"Look on the table in the kitchen and don't forget that I love you very much."
Rushing to read loving notes from the table in the kitchen to the closet in the living room, Maria would eventually encounter a bunch of flowers, her favorite chocolates, and sometimes expensive gifts. It didn't matter what gift she got anyway.
No matter how fast life flows, no matter how long their work is, they always find time to devote themselves to each other, but by the time they reach their mid-forties, they decided to work less. George quit his job at the hospital and began accepting patients in his own practice. Maria also closed her architectural firm and took part in special projects only. Now they could be together more.
One day, while they were strolling along the beach, Maria saw a ruined house. It said "for sale" on the house.
"What do you say, shall we buy this house? We'll tear down this wreck and make a great house. I've already drawn the project in my head. Let's build a sea house with a huge terrace where we will invite the seagulls to breakfast."
"Can I ever say no to your request?" George replied.
"As soon as I get back from the medical congress in America, I'll call the real estate agent. I will buy this place no matter how much money. Don't worry, darling. " said the man.
They would only be separated for a week. This one-week separation would be very difficult for them. Every day, every hour they talked by phone.
*
George returned from America a week later. They hugged Maria in tears at the airport.
But a few days later, Maria noticed something strange about her husband. Her husband did not look as happy as before, and did not want to talk.
To cheer her up, she reminded her of the house on the beach, and she gave the project she had drawn, but got an unexpected response from George:
My dear, that house is over our budget. You better forget that house. "
Unhappiness becomes even more painful and unbearable to people who are used to the taste of happiness. The woman did not like this unexpected guest at all. She begged the man to tell him his problem.
"I would die for you, you know. Please tell me what problem you have." she pleaded with her husband.
It was as if the man he had loved for years was replaced by someone who was insensitive and loveless. The more she tried to reach her, the more she hit the concrete walls, the more her heart bleeded with each hit.
One day, Maria told her friend, with whom she spent her childhood, youth and all her life, about the problems she had with her husband.
"I can't stand it anymore; I have to tell you." she said her friend:
“Your husband is cheating on you. Every afternoon George is eating with a young woman at the restaurant opposite my workplace. Then they are getting into the car, holding hands."
"Hush, shut up quickly, I don't want to hear these lies." shouted the woman. She accused her friend of all those years of being jealous of her.
The next day, at noon, she hid in a corner just opposite that restaurant. She understood that fairy tales are just fairy tales.
Maria recognized this young lady right away. This lady was once a doctor who worked at the same hospital as her husband. Sometimes they hosted them in their homes. Maria saw how her husband hugged the young woman.
Maria yelled at her as soon as her husband came home in the evening. She told her husband everything she saw today. She asked her husband why he was doing this. Maria hugged her husband in tears.
The man did not deny what happened.
George, mumbled something to Maria that feelings could change over time, that people looked for difference when they came to middle age, and he took his suitcase and left the house.
As he walked out the door, George said:
"I'd like to hug you one last time." she started to say to his wife, but the woman said:
"Get out of here," she said with disgust.
They divorced in the first session. Nobody could believe that a modern love story came to an end like this. The woman consoled herself with the support of her friends.
Maria was getting new news about George. George had settled in America with his lover. Maria sometimes remembered George when she was alone. He still felt that he loved her. Maria was crying all the time. She was always praying that love would be replaced by hatred, a feeling just as powerful.
A year has passed. They used to say, "Time heals everything." However, a year later, Maria was still unhappy. There was nothing improved.
*
One morning, he woke up to the sound of the bell ringing insistently. When Maria opened the door, she saw that woman in front of her.
"You, shameless woman. Why did you come here?" she wanted to shout, but did not make a sound.
"Please, let me in, we must talk." said the young woman.
The young woman sat on the sofa and spoke in a barely audible voice:
“Nothing is actually what it seems. I'm so sorry, but George died an hour ago. During the congress in America last year, he learned about his illness and that he has a year to live. He knew you couldn't bear it, that you would want to die with him as you always said. He asked me to play the role of his lover, to distance you from yourself. He did not inform his family either. He spread the lie that we settled in America together. However, he rented a house opposite the bus stop you first encountered. He had been treated for a year. He believed that he would get rid of this disease. George's maid called me last night. He was having his last moments when I got to him. He was very sad. He asked me to give you this box. "

Maria knew she couldn't stop the tears running down her eyes. She wanted to die right there. Maria looked carefully at the box in her hand. She opened the box slowly. Inside the box was a lot of carefully folded paper.
On the first paper:
“Please read all the notes in order, my sweetheart.” George was saying.
Maria, in turn, read the papers:
"I loved you a lot,
"I have never stopped loving you."
"You always said 'I would die for you', I knew you were telling the truth. But I didn't want you to die for me."
"Now I want you to promise me. You will live for me. Come on, promise me now."
Maria's lips moved, "I promise you, darling. I will live for you."
As she took the last paper in her hand, Maria saw that there was a key in the box. And on the last paper it was written:
“I built our house on the beach according to your project. While having breakfast with the seagulls on the huge terrace, I will always be watching you. "
